As I prepare for MACUL 17 and my presentation about digital citizenship, information literacy and exactly what that means has been occupying my mind. I was very excited when I read Joyce Valenza’s post about UNESCO’s stand on media and information literacy. This framework provides a starting point for discussion about what students need to have, know and do as digital citizens. It acknowledges the need to view our students as both creators and consumers of information. I must admit that it leads me to more questions than answers. What does this look like in a school setting? How do we teach students to both create and consume wisely? I am looking forward to my colleagues’ input at MACUL 17 to help me clarify my thinking. Please feel free to contribute your thoughts to this Padlet. I relish continuing this conversation.
